The first Monday of a new month deserves a little post about what has been inspiring me lately. I’d love to make this a thing every few weeks! This Monday, I’m feeling super inspired by Nancy Meyers movies. Let me tell you why…
This weekend was super stormy and rainy, and just plain gross out so we stayed home all weekend. The weather really made for the perfect excuse to stay in bed until 1pm on Saturday and then veg out the rest of the day while leisurely watching all my favorite Nancy Meyers movies (all of them are my favorite if I’m being honest), brunching at home, and drinking one too many cocktails and cups of coffee.
If you’ve never seen a Nancy Meyers movie then I insist you go watch one now! My favorite part about her movies are always the strong female leads and of course, the interiors. All the interiors are just so darn swoon worthy. If you asked me to pick a favorite set, I don’t know if I could because it’s a serious toss up between Meryl’s house in It’s Complicated and Reese’s house in Home Again. But let’s not forgot about Diane Keaton’s home in Father of the Bride…oh, and Cameron’s house in The Holiday. You see what’s happening here, it’s impossible to pick!
Anyways, I love the beginning of a new year because it feels like the perfect time to revamp some of my home decor. Especially after I’ve gone through and purged so much in the apartment. Purging really allowed me to be able to take inventory of the items I have. I’m using Nancy Meyers movie sets as my inspiration as I revamp this year because they are all just so beautiful. Now, I’m not talking about getting any new furniture or ‘big’ things, just adding and reusing old accessories to make the apartment feel fresh. The only thing I might make a major change on is the desk. Ryan’s dad has an old one that I’m thinking of bringing back to life with a fresh coat of white paint and new drawer pulls.
What I love most about Nancy’s interiors is the ‘lived in factor’ that they all have. All of them are beautiful but they aren’t stuffy and over done, they looked well lived in. I also love how everything is a neutral/creamy color palette with pops of color. There really is no going back with all the color I already have going on in the apartment until we move out, but I’m going to try and neutralize some of it where I can. To do that, I’m contemplating adding a seagrass rug over our large turkish rug in the living room (can’t decide if that’s weird or not though). She also uses textures in a way that adds to that level of effortless comfort that her interiors give off. I have a lot of velvet (which I love) but would love to incorporate additional textures as well.
That’s what’s inspiring me this week so my apologies to my husband when he comes home and everything is rearranged…again! What’s inspiring you this week?
